Microphone Not Working

Common fixes when your microphone is not detected or recording is silent.

Check browser permissions, select the correct device, and adjust input levels.

Test your microphone

Step by step

  1. 01

    Check browser permissions

Your browser must have microphone access allowed for this site. Look for a microphone or site controls icon in the address bar.

  2. 02

    Select the right device

The studio includes an in-app microphone chooser in its setup panel. If the wrong device is selected there, you can also check your browser or operating system audio settings.

  3. 03

    Check input levels

Open your operating system sound settings and confirm the microphone input level is not muted or set very low.

  4. 04

    Try the microphone test

Use the microphone test page to record 3 seconds and play it back. This checks whether the browser can access your microphone.

  5. 05

    Try a different browser

If the issue persists, try Chrome or Edge. They provide the most consistent microphone and media path for this tool.

More detail

Permission reset

If you previously denied microphone access, the browser may not ask again automatically. Reset the permission manually.

In Chrome, open site controls from the address bar, find Microphone, and set it to Allow. Then reload the page.

System-level checks

On macOS, check System Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Microphone. Make sure your browser is listed and enabled.

On Windows, check Settings, then Privacy, then Microphone. Make sure both the global toggle and the browser-specific toggle are on.

Hardware issues

If no application can detect your microphone, the issue is likely a hardware or driver problem rather than a browser setting.

Try unplugging and reconnecting the microphone, or test it in another application such as a system voice recorder.
